Women of the World Endowment Case Study:

The research is unambiguous. There are enormous financial benefits from financial leadership and innovation decisions that are inclusive of women— benefits that show up as better performance and financial rewards across investments in all asset classes.

A

nd yet, most investment dollars allocated to women-run businesses are still limited to the microfinance sector. WoWE seeks to change that.

Founded by Patience Marime-Ball, formerly of the International Finance Corporation and the creator of the IFC’s multibillion-dollar Banking on Women initiative at the IFC, WoWE dares to ask the question:

What if we allocated our capital in ways that recognize the role of women as critical contributors to the world’s economy whether they are in the board room, innovating in a lab or working in a healthcare facility?

What’s more, WoWE is determined to answer this question by demonstrating to Wall Street the investment potential of investing in and through women while using the endowment’s returns to grant into women-run organizations and businesses that are creating systems change for women and girls the world over.

Since 2020, our team has been the strategic communications partner to WoWE. Our program is focused on establishing WoWE as a recognized leader in gender lens investing and amplifying an understanding of its field-building efforts and grant-making.

In just a short time, Confluence Partners has worked closely with the CEO and its board to develop WoWE’s narrative and core messaging, and conceive and execute a robust thought leadership program that includes securing media introductions, various podcast and webinar opportunities and publishing thought pieces for Patience.

Some of these successes include placing an op-ed on DEI and Wall Street in Responsible Investor; securing Patience as a guest on ImpactAlpha’s Reconstruction Podcast and Minority Money, a fireside chat with Impact Entrepreneur and introductions with the Associated Press and Fortune magazine.

In addition, our team helped launch WoWE’s Changemakers webinar series, designed to invite leaders from across the financial ecosystem to explore how capital markets must fully invest in and through women as drivers of solutions to the world’s most pressing environmental and social challenges.

Confluence Partners also developed a comprehensive program of convenings alongside institutional investors and family offices to raise WoWE’s profile among target stakeholders and assist in fundraising working with partners such as As You Sow, Institutional Investor, PwC, Responsible Investor and more.
